BOOK FEATURE AND REVIEW

AUTISTIC CHAMPIONS LAUNCH EVENT (POWERED BY ELROG.LTD)
Elsie featured alongside veterans who champion Autism Awareness across communities. This was a no holds barred event, free from restrictions or hampering conventions. All the objectives were met and the Interactive session tackled not only the vulnerability of autistic people and their families but the self-imposed ostracism, social isolation Puberty, sex and loneliness amongst Black and Ethnic Minority communities.
My son Christian also spoke about the impact of Autism on Siblings and how this has made me patient and kind but also the negativity he has endured. “Today, it is great that Joshua and I can connect over music. We can check out cool rap tunes, and of course, Joshua is awesome on keyboards. We also share a love for the cinema. When a recent Marvel film came out, I saw it three times: with two groups of friends and then with my brother.
About six months before Marvel came out, Josh had told me that he’d like to see it – so on the day of the film’s release, I was back home, taking him to the cinema. I am not sure he remembered when the film would be released, but I had. I am aware, acutely so, that Josh can’t spontaneously do stuff like I can. When I spot a film I fancy, I can text a friend, and we’ll be in our seats 30 minutes later. With Josh, it has to be pre-planned, and it wouldn’t be safe for him to go on his own.”
Veteran of all things on Autism, Vanessa Bobby-Swaby of A2nd voice, spoke expressively on diverse issues including delayed and ineffective diagnosis of autism, mental health, non-acceptance based on cultural limitations and the unfortunate outcomes of these behaviours or approach to something that is evidently real and serious.
Chris Israel an Autistic Champion Survivor also spoke on the impact of bullying on his life and how he has navigated life and still continues to be an advocate on Autism.
There’s so much more to this event, see the elsierogersofficial Instagram page for more information.

Autism Acceptance and Awareness (AAA Course)
In October, the course on autism curated by Elsie Rogers was launched. The aim is to inform and empower parents and carers as they go through the journey of Autism. This course has been designed to inform and empower parents, carers as they go through the journey of autism with their child or suspect their child may be showing signs of autism even before they get a diagnosis.
This course will empower families to start thinking ahead of the journey and consider options for intervention instead of ignoring or postponing to seek help. So whether you’re a parent, caregiver, educator, or simply interested in learning more about autism, this training will provide you with valuable tools and insights to navigate the world of autism with confidence.
The course also touches on how autism is interpreted and accepted among the Black, Asian and other Minority communities.
